Twister Sisters.

There will be a granddaughter digging through old left behind chests, dusting frames and reading handwritten recipes. She’ll find cherished china teacups, tattered photos of “old uncle so and so”, who she has his nose, and tarnished jewelry that slides onto her finger perfectly, as she has her Nana’s slender hands. She’ll find photos that capture moments and secrets only “they” will ever know. She’ll ask to hear the stories, she’ll laugh, she’ll cry, and she’ll learn about one of the most precious Earthly treasures I have ever witnessed.

It’s been almost 40 years since the first ones met. Pam and Wezie, perhaps known to “twist” off when together, and there the name was born. If one twisted off, the other was likely to follow. And so it goes.

The Twister Sisters.

Somewhere amongst the pine trees in East Texas, it started with a few girlfriends, who recruited a few more and created a tight circle, one to never be broken. Pokeno game nights started and lasted for years, and the group grew and grew. Some came, some left, most stayed. Hundreds of chapters from the beginning, are full of life, stories, hilarious moments and heartbreaks – way too much to spill here. It’s the perfect fusion of differences in opinions, faith, politics, religion, ages, and hair styles.

Today, they continue to create a sacred blend of chronicles to be told for generations here today, and the ones to come. They are raw, authentic, unapologetic, loving, wild, fun and most of all, devoted.

Through the chapters of their tale, they’ve come together for every season and every reason. Game nights, Derby hat parties, Christmas baking, live local music, girls trips, mountain trips,  crawfish boils, lake days, day drinking, bulb sorting, and decades full of gathering and loving each other, just the way they are.

They have showered each other with selfless devotion through fighting cancer, broken bones, surgeries, falls, car accidents, sick spouses, caring for elderly parents, burying loved ones, and all the junk in between such as bickering siblings, family addictions, forgiveness, divided families and moments of devastation. All of the moments, they gather. Always.

Twisters, thank you for showing us what true sisterhood looks like, one that is never broken. Thank you for loving each other in the darkest days and cheering alongside the most glorious moments too.

From the trenches and the mountain tops, thank you for allowing me a front row seat to the blood, sweat and tears spent making the memories that will fill the dusty chest. Your stories are epic and forever etched in my heart. I want to be like you someday, and never grow up.

“A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.”

XOXO,
